• Utilize electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems) to document patient information accurately while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy and data security.
• Educate patients on eye health, disease management, treatment options, and preventive care strategies with clear communication tailored to individual needs.
• Operate medical equipment safely and effectively during ophthalmic examinations, including slit lamps, tonometers, and diagnostic imaging devices.
• Collaborate with our Ophthalmologists and other outside healthcare professionals for referrals or specialized treatments when necessary, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
• Perform refractions and issue glasses prescription.

• Valid license to practice as an Optometrist in Washington State.
• Proven experience in ophthalmology or optometry with familiarity in optical practices or healthcare settings.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology of the eye, and common disease states affecting vision health.
• Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems and ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment.
• Excellent client communication skills with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service and education.
• Ability to perform ophthalmic patient examinations accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
• Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye health and disease management.

Eye MDs of Puget Sound is an expanding, physician-owned, 25-year-old practice looking to add an additional full-time provider. Our main office and free-standing surgery center are located in Tacoma. The 10,000-square-foot main office is outfitted with 12 exam lanes. A modern satellite office is situated in Olympia with 5 exam lanes. Both offices are equipped with autorefractor, topographer, OCT, VF, and IOL Master capabilities. Optical shops with full-time opticians are present in both offices as well.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no weekends. The new Optometrist will perform comprehensive eye examinations, including refraction, ocular health assessments, and contact lens fittings for patients 16 years and older.

Daily responsibilities include diagnosing and managing common ocular conditions, co-managing medical and surgical cases with Ophthalmologists, and providing ongoing vision care and counseling. The role involves documenting findings in electronic health records, coordinating care with other clinicians, and educating patients on treatment options, preventative care, and use of corrective lenses. The Optometrist will also participate in follow-up care, occasional in-office urgent care visits, and participate in the after-hours on-call rotation with other practice providers.

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution and current, or eligible, licensure to practice optometry in the state of Washington.
• Strong clinical skills in comprehensive eye exams, refraction, contact lens evaluation and fitting, and management of setting.
• Proficiency with electronic health records and comfort using diagnostic technologies such as autorefractors, OCT, visual field, and fundus imaging.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to patient education, cultural sensitivity, and respectful care for diverse populations.
• Demonstrated reliability, professional judgment, and ability to manage a steady patient schedule while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
